Textile chemistry meets art: PERIGEN CD as dyeing auxiliary for artists

Ebba Grahn discovered the levelling and penetrating agent PERIGEN CD during her master studies at the world-renowned Royal College of Art located in London. The Swedish artist uses the auxiliary in her art studio to achieve fast and reliable dyeing results on acrylic glass.

Innovative works made of dyed acrylic glass

All her life Ebba Grahn has created different kinds of art. After graduating from high school, she remained true to the artistic world and studied industrial design. Ebba Grahn worked for some years as a designer in Stockholm until she applied to the MA at the Royal College of Art in London.

When she began her studies at the British university, she realized that sculpting was her calling. However, Ebba Grahn wanted to challenge the material norms with sculpture and discovered dyed acrylic glass. In the one-of-a-kind dye laboratory at the Royal College of Art she was taught by a skilled textile technician how to dye acrylic glass. There she learned to know the dyeing auxiliary PERIGEN CD.

Her degree work shows a combination between clay and dyed acrylic glass focusing on life as contemporary human being (https://2023.rca.ac.uk/students/ebba-grahn/).

Since successfully completing the Sculpture program, Ebba Grahn is currently showing her art in some galleries in London and continues to explore the medium acrylic glass. Based in London and Stockholm, she is intending to focus on the “beautiful things in life” with her next projects made of acrylic glass:

"I do not want to be comfortable in my art and therefore, I will do the “impossible” and now portray the good things in life – such as unconditional love, nature, human touch, and self-love."

PERIGEN CD as dyeing auxiliary for creatives

PERIGEN CD is used to produce dyes at the London based university of art: There, as in the textile industry, it serves as a dyeing auxiliary in the “Fashion” and “Textiles” programs. Furthermore, students of Contemporary Art add the product to their mixtures in the dye laboratory. Here, PERIGEN CD ensures uniform and faster dyeing of various materials such as acrylic glass.

PERIGEN CD

PERIGEN CD is a levelling and penetrating agent for dyeing of polyester, polyester/wool, polyester/cotton, triacetate and its blends with cellulosic fibers.

The product can also be used in rapid dyeing processes and effects a levelled absorption of disperse dyes of different constitutions during the heating-up period. In the HT range PERIGEN CD has a levelling but not retarding effect. In the range below 100 °C the product acts as dyeing accelerator. PERIGEN CD is also suitable for the rapid dying process. The application of the auxiliary helps to achieve levelled dyeings even with high heating rates, leading to shorter process runtime. PERIGEN CD has good dispersing properties and avoids agglomerations of disperse dyes. In slightly acid as well as in alkaline polyester dyeings PERIGEN CD shows a good levelling and penetrating effect of the fiber under atmospherical and also under HT conditions.
